This topic describes how to configure IP phone users.

Prerequisites

ϒ⁄The unified gateway has been started and connected to the network properly.

ϒ⁄You have logged in to the web management system to check license usage information, ensuring that the number of users does not exceed the maximum limit.

Background

After the unified gateway is deployed, the administrator can add and delete users in the web management system as required.

Table 1 lists the maximum number of users supported by the unified gateway. The actual number of supported users is determined by the license.

Procedure

This topic assumes that you want to register the following SIP users with the unified gateway:

ϒ⁄IP phone users 6000 to 6031

ϒ⁄IP phone user 7096

1.Configure SIP users on the unified gateway

This topic assumes that you want to:

ϒ⁄Add 32 SIP user devices in batches. The start device ID is 7000 and the start user number is 7000.

ϒ⁄Add the SIP user 7096.

ϒ⁄Choose User > SIP User.

ϒ⁄Click Create on the SIP User page.

ϒ⁄Enter user information on the Add SIP User page that is displayed, as shown in Figure 1.

From V2.0, two additional parameters, namely Service password and Self-service login password, are provided for a user being created. You can log in to the web management system and configure Service password and Self-service login password, or run the config system subscriber defaultpwd password password webpassword webpassword command in global config mode to configure the default service password and self-service login password for the user. If the passwords are not configured using either the command or web management system, the user fails to be created. If the passwords are configured using both the command and web management system, the configurations in the web management system prevail.

Table 2 describes the parameters.

Table 2 Parameter description

Parameter

Description

Start number

The start number is a short number allocated by the unified gateway.

Start long number

Long numbers are allocated by the carriers, such as PSTN carriers. A long number corresponds to a short number.

Start device ID

The device ID is the SIP device registration account, for example, SIP user ID configured during IP phone registration.

Device type

The Device type parameter is used for the connection between the unified gateway and a SIP device. The parameter value must be the same as that specified on the SIP device. If the parameter is set to UScale, the corresponding number can access the unified gateway only through an  UScale soft terminal.

Authentication mode

This parameter specifies the mode for authenticating a SIP device when it registers with the unified gateway.

NOTICE:

To improve account security, you are advised to select the IP address or password as the authentication mode for SIP number allocation. The password must not be the same as the device ID or device ID in reverse order.

User right level

User right levels are listed in the following ascending order: Default right < Common right < Advanced right < Super right. The default value is Default right. Users with a preset level of rights can use specified call rights only in specified time segments. Higher-level users can reserve trunks for themselves. If there is no available trunk, they can preempt the trunks assigned for lower-level users to make outgoing calls.

Service password

The service password for SIP user.

Self-service login password

Personal password for logging to the web self-service system.

ϒ⁄Click OK.

To modify or delete configured user information, return to the SIP User page, select U1900_mntg_image_f_u1960_mntg_00015_03 next to the user information, and click Modify or Delete, as shown in Figure 2.

ϒ⁄Click OK.

Return to the SIP Users page. For details on how to modify and delete user information, see 1.d.

2.Configure phone data on the web page of the IP phone.

If SIP users are registered with the unified gateway through the IP phone, you need to perform related configuration on the phone after configuring a SIP user on the unified gateway. The operations are as follows:

ϒ⁄Configuration on an  UScale 7910 IP phone

a.Log in to the IP phone web management system.

b.Choose Advanced > Configuration Wizard.

The Configuration Wizard > Network page is displayed.

c.Click Next.

The Configuration Wizard > Server Settings page is displayed.

d.Configure the SIP server IP address and port number, as shown in Figure 4.

Table 3 describes the key parameters.

Table 3 Key parameter description

Parameter

Description

Account

SIP user ID used in authentication. The value is the same as the SIP device ID configured on the unified gateway.

User Name

Account name provided by the VoIP service provider. The value is similar to or is a phone number. It is the same as the user number configured on the unified gateway.

Password

Password used for an account to register with the SIP server.

Server 1

IP address of the SIP server. Set this parameter to the IP address of the unified gateway.

Port

Port number of the SIP server.

NOTE:

§If TLS is selected, the default value of this port is 5061.

§If UDP or TCP is selected, the default value of this port is 5060.

a.Click Save.

Table 4 Parameter description

Parameter

Description

Register Name

Authentication ID.

User Name

Account name provided by the VoIP service provider. The value is similar to a phone number or is an actual phone number.

Password

Password corresponding to Register Name. The value is provided by the service provider.

SIP Server

IP address of the SIP server. This parameter specifies the IP address of the unified gateway.

Port

Port number of the SIP server.

NOTE:

§If TLS is selected, the default value of this port is 5061.

§If UDP or TCP is selected, the default value of this port is 5060.

§If DNS-SRV is selected, the default value of this port is 0.

Transport

The options are UDP, TCP, TLS (encrypted transmission), and DNS-SRV. The values UDP, TCP, and TLS are SIP transmission methods. The value DNS-SRV indicates that an IP phone determines the transfer type (UDP, TCP, or TLS) based on the information in the DNS SRV record sent by the server.

NOTE:

The value of this parameter is the same as that of Transporttype configured for the SIP trunk.

a.Click Update.

public_sys-resources_note_3.0-en-us

Certain types of IP phones need to be restarted for the configuration to take effect. For details, see related documents of the IP phone.

Verification

After the configuration is completed, if configured user numbers can be found, users are successfully configured; otherwise, users fail to be configured.

Troubleshooting

ϒ⁄When a message indicating that a number exists is displayed, do not configure this number.

ϒ⁄When a message indicating license limitation is displayed, the number of configured users reaches the maximum number of users supported by the license.
