abbreviated dialing

A feature that allows the caller to call the callee by dialing an abbreviated number with two digits instead of the original callee number.

absent subscriber service

A service that allows other users calling a registered user to hear an announcement indicating that the callee is absent. This service is used when the user is unavailable for answering calls.

access code for retrieving messages

The access code to be dialed when a unified message system (UMS) user obtains voice or fax messages.

Access Gateway

A type of gateway that provides a user-network interface (UNI) such as ISDN. An access gateway is located at the edge access layer of the NGN structure, and provides various methods for connecting users to the NGN.

Access Network

In telecommunications, an access network is a network that connects subscribers to telecommunication service providers over public ground. It can be considered the route between the subscriber's home, and the ISP itself. The access network is composed of the carrier's station and the end user.

active/standby control mode

A running mode in which two main control boards working in active/standby mode are installed in a system.

active/standby switchover

A troubleshooting technology. When an active device becomes faulty, services and control functions are automatically switched over to the standby device to ensure the normal running of the services and functions.

Address Resolution Protocol

Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is an Internet Protocol used to map IP addresses to MAC addresses. It allows hosts and routers to determine the link layer addresses through ARP requests and ARP responses. The address resolution is a process in which the host converts the target IP address into a target MAC address before transmitting a frame. The basic function of the ARP is to query the MAC address of the target equipment through its IP address.

agent

An enterprise that operates on part or all of the products of a carrier to gain commission

agent busy

A state that is set when the attendant cannot answer calls. The agent busy state can be canceled when necessary. After an agent is set to busy, the following calls to this agent are not included in the call queue of this agent.

alarm

A message reported when a fault is detected by a device or by the network management system during the process of polling devices. Each alarm corresponds to a recovery alarm. After a recovery alarm is received, the status of the corresponding alarm changes to cleared.

alarm clock service

A service that allows the phone to ring at the preset time to inform the user of an arranged task.

alarm mask

On the host, an alarm management method through which users can set conditions for the system to discard (not to save, display, or query for) the alarm information meeting the conditions.

alarm severity

The significance of a change in system performance or events. According to ITU-T recommendations, an alarm can have one of the following severities: Critical, Major, Minor, Warning.

attendant

A person who provides service enquiry and assistance to group members. In the VPN service, an attendant may be a group member or someone from the carrier's party.

attendant position

The part of a switching system used by an attendant, i.e., an operator, to assist users in call completion and use of special services.

authentication

An act that decides whether a user can be awarded with access right or what kinds of users can access a network.

Automatic Call Distributor

A device distributing calls to corresponding agents or the automatic voice answer system according to the set rules, providing the functions of managing inbound and outbound calls and distributing calls.

automatic login

A login mode in which no user name and password need to be entered when you double-click the host icon, when the client disconnects with the host, or when you start the client. The system automatically logs in to the host with the latest user name that is used to log in to the host successfully. The automatic login mode is classified into double-click login mode and automatic link mode.

automatic switchboard

A service that allows all the incoming calls to be forwarded to the preset automatic switchboard. By default, the switchboard plays the prompt asking the user to dial the extension.

average occupied duration

Average interval between the occupation of a trunk and the release of the trunk in a statistical period. Average occupied duration = Total occupation duration/Total occupation events
