This topic describes the knowledge and skills that enterprise administrators must acquire.

Enterprise administrators must have a basic knowledge of:

ϒ⁄Windows operating system

ϒ⁄Ethernet, router, and switch

ϒ⁄how to use common maintenance tools

Environment and System Information

Table 1 describes the environment and system information that enterprise administrators must collect.

Device location

Detailed address of the equipment room, position (specifying the line and row) of each cabinet in the equipment room, and position of each device in the cabinet. Each device can be located quickly based on the information.

Network

Network topology and hardware connection diagram that involve all devices.

Service planning

Active/standby devices, service software installed on each device, and service running modes.

Device information

A list of device IP addresses, user names, and passwords used for quick access to each device. If the passwords cannot be listed on paper for security reason, remember them.

Software and tools

Software version and tool

Version installation CD-ROMs (or recovery CD-ROMs), and tools required for troubleshooting.

Contact methods

Service information for purchased devices

Method for contacting the manufacturer, device serial number, and warranty terms and conditions.

Technical support personnel information

Names, contact information, and responsibilities of technical support personnel.

Spare parts

Spare parts

Existing spare parts and those available from the service provider, and methods and duration for obtaining spare parts.

Available redundancy devices or temporary devices

Redundancy or temporary devices in the system.
