handshake

Sequence of messages exchanged between two or more network devices to ensure transmission synchronization.

hardware reset

An operation of re-loading data and program for specified boards through pressing the RST key on the board panel.

heartbeat

Heartbeats are the packets, requiring no acknowledgement, transmitted between two devices. The device can judge the validity status of the peer device.

host breakdown

A severe fault that results in the loss of all or most of the functions of the host.

hot plugging

A technology used to improve the reliability and maintainability of a system. It ensures that the system performance is not affected when a board is inserted and removed during system running.

hyper terminal

A program which can be connected to other computers, Telnet sites, BBSs (Bulletin Boards System), online services, and hosts by using the Modem, zero Modem cable, or TCP/IP (Winsock).
