This topic describes the classification of emergency faults that may occur on the unified gateway.

Emergency faults refer to the faults that occur and affect a wide range of services or devices. They degrade network operation and quality of service (QoS). These faults include device crash and global service congestion.

Emergency faults of the device are classified into two categories:

ϒ⁄Device faults

ϒ⁄Service faults

Device Faults

Device faults refer to the faults that occur on the key parts in the unified gateway shelf, for example, device crash and board crash.

ϒ⁄Device crash

Device crash means that the device malfunctions totally or partially. Any of the following cases is regarded as a device crash:

§Power failure of the shelf

§Crash of all the boards

ϒ⁄Board crash

Board crash indicates the total malfunction of a board.

Service Faults

Service faults refer to the global or partial service congestion of the unified gateway.

ϒ⁄Global service congestion

Global service congestion means that the service of the unified gateway in the local office is interrupted or congested globally for a long time. Any of the following cases is regarded as global service congestion:

§All the media gateways cannot register successfully, for example, being disconnected immediately after they are registered.

§Calls are congested on all user terminals. For example, users fail to make or receive calls, or fail to hear the dial tone or busy tone after they hang up the phone.

§Calls are congested in all office directions. For example, users fail to make or receive calls.

ϒ⁄Partial service congestion

Partial service congestion means that the services in some areas are interrupted or congested for a long time on the unified gateway in the local office.

§Some media gateways fail to register with the network, for example, being disconnected immediately after they are registered.

§Calls are congested on some user terminals. For example, users fail to make or receive calls, and fail to hear the dial tone or busy tone after they hang up the phone.

§Calls are congested in some office directions. For example, users fail to make or receive calls.
